• Instagram is the only social network to make the top ten list

Barcelona, March 18th, 2024.- Softonic.com, the world’s leading secure software distributor, has released the list of the most downloaded programs this winter.

With 1,660,000 downloads, CapCut, a Chinese app that uses artificial intelligence to edit short videos and is part of the same group as Tik Tok, is at the top of the podium. Thanks to artificial intelligence, it's the most user-friendly tool available.

CapCut also topped the list of the most downloaded apps in 2023, according to Softonic's Download Report, which was released at the end of the year; this upward trajectory is expected to continue in 2024.

The inclusion of two video editing tools in the top 10, CapCut and Wink Video Retouching, illustrates the growing significance of video editing as a necessary skill for producing content for social media sites like YouTube, Snapchat, and Tik Tok. 

It is closely followed by Roblox, a video game platform that began as a place where children could learn to program and has ended up attracting both professional developers and brands and influencers of all kinds. With 1.5 million downloads, Roblox is an example of how virtual spaces for immersive experiences are expanding beyond video games to become true social networks.

Video games are the most downloaded category, with four titles in the top 10: Brawl Stars, GTA: San Andreas, Roblox, and Mobile Legends Bang Bang. This trend continues from the download trends seen in 2023.  

It is worth noting that Instagram is the only social network to be ranked among the top ten most downloaded apps, ahead of WhatsApp (14th), Telegram (23rd), Facebook (31st), and TikTok (34th). 

Traditional office programs, such as Word and Excel, remain relevant, with Word ranking third overall and Excel ranking sixth, with more downloads than Instagram.
