Softonic Names Scott Arpajian New CEO

Europe’s leading tech site taps Disney executive and former head of Download.com to drive growth onto mobile platforms

Barcelona, February 18th, 2015 -Softonic, a leading software app discovery platform, announced that Scott Arpajian is its new CEO. The appointment of Arpajian signals a stronger emphasis on mobile and a renewed focus on product innovation, expansion and revenue growth for the company.

With more than 20 years of experience in the sector, Scott joins Softonic from The Walt Disney Company, where he served as Vice President of Business Development and International Strategy for Disney Interactive’s Social and Mobile Games division. As an early employee at CNET in 1996, he launched Download.com, the then-leading site for software, mobile applications and game downloads.

“I’m delighted to join Softonic and look forward to helping this company succeed in a rapidly evolving marketplace,” Arpajian said. “I’m excited to work with the company’s dedicated employees to bring innovative products and solutions to our users and advertisers around the world.”

The global market for mobile application downloads is expect to reach nearly 270 billion[1] in 2017, compared with almost 140 billion at the end of 2014, playing to Softonic’s strength and Arpajian’s experience in the quickly evolving application download market.

Scott succeeds Tomás Diago, who will continue to be Chairman of the Board of the company he founded 17 years ago. The two worked together closely as part of a transition period.

“Scott will bring us the fresh skills and perspective Softonic needs to move forward,” Diago said. “He’s passionate about technology and people and thrives in high-energy, high-growth environments.”

According to Christian Unger, Managing Director Partners Group and a Softonic board member, “Scott has the ideal combination of strategic vision and tactical execution Softonic needs to harness the potential of a growing market.”

Scott graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Science in Communications. He relocated to Barcelona with his family.

“This is a golden opportunity to lead an exceptional company in a growing technology space with a talented staff,” Arpajian noted. “We’re going to do great things.”
