The STAR methodology is a structured manner of responding to a behavioral-based interview question by discussing the specific situation, task, action, and result of the situation you are describing.

Situation

Describe the situation and when it took place.

Task

Explain the task and what was the goal.

Provide details about the action you took to attain this.

Conclude with the result of your action.

responses

Situation

Advertising revenue was falling off for my college newspaper, The Review, and large numbers of long-term advertisers were not renewing contracts.

Task

My goal was to generate new ideas, materials and incentives that would result in at least a 15% increase in advertisers from the year before.

Action

I designed a new promotional packet to go with the rate sheet and compared the benefits of The Review circulation with other ad media in the area. I also set-up a special training session for the account executives with a School of Business Administration professor who discussed competitive selling strategies. 

Result

We signed contracts with 15 former advertisers for daily ads and five for special supplements. We increased our new advertisers by 20 percent over the same period last year.

HR interview

During the HR interview, we will be evaluating a variety of factors to determine your overall readiness, motivation for the position and for joining our team here at Softonic, eligibility, and cultural fit. This is an important part of our hiring process and will help us determine if you are a good fit for the role and for our company as a whole.

Technical interview

The Technical interviews, which will be conducted by the Hiring Manager, are designed to assess your technical abilities and skills, as well as your potential for growth, develop  yourself and ability to work well within a team. We are also interested in understanding your knowledge and expertise that may be valuable for the growth and development of our team and company in the future

Technical Test

This interview is conducted by Senior Software Engineers and assesses your technical problem-solving skills, including data structures, performance, and application structure. We evaluate your ability to implement an effective and clear solution to the problem presented.

VP of Engineering interview

During this interview, the VP of Engineering will typically ask the candidate a series of questions to assess their qualifications, technical expertise, and overall fit for the role. The interview may also include a discussion of the company's engineering strategy, technical challenges the company is facing, and other relevant topics. This interview is held usually in the office so that the candidate is able to see the environment and meet the engineering team.

Personality Test

The personality test is a tool used to evaluate a candidate's personality traits and work style. It provides insight into how the candidate might interact with others in the workplace and how they might fit into the company culture.

The Business Case is a task that you will present to a panel of interviewers, which includes the Hiring Manager. The objective is to evaluate your technical skills in a real-world scenario, and to assess your strategic thinking, creativity, and communication style. The Business Case provides an opportunity for you to showcase your ability to think outside the box and demonstrate your problem-solving skills.

VP of the area interview

During this interview, the VP of the area will typically ask the candidate a series of questions to assess their qualifications, technical expertise, and overall fit for the role. The interview may also include a discussion of the company's strategy and other relevant topics.
